Session 3 2023 MS/HS PM: Creative Writing
Session 3 PM: July 5-21
Age / grade level: MS/HS
Teacher: Mr. Panciera
Description: This class is catered to give students a comfortable environment in which to express themselves. Students will read contemporary short stories and poems and discuss what it is about these texts that do or don’t appeal to the class. Students will then do an activity — such as observing the outside world or playing a game with their peers — in order to garner material to write about. Students will then be given a prompt to encourage them to write in different genres. Students will have the opportunity to do collaborative projects, which can include illustrations and photography to accompany written works.
Teacher Bio: Mr. Aaron Panciera is an M.A. student in English Literature at the University of Alabama, where he teaches discussion sections on American Literature. Before enrolling at UA, he was a substitute teacher at Grasso Technical High School in Connecticut, where he spent time as a long-term substitute, teaching 11th and 12th grade math. Mr. Panciera spends most of his free time reading, writing, making hummus, and taking long, meandering walks around Tuscaloosa. When he finishes his graduate program, Mr. Panciera hopes to teach middle school and/or high school.
