Faculty - Upper SchoolHigh School English I want to introduce myself as the Lead Teacher and administrator for the Upper School. While I have taught at Capitol School since 2005, I am thrilled to step into this position and to work closely with all of you this year. Among other responsibilities, my service at Capitol involves teaching middle school and high school English classes, organizing and communicating with families about courses and opportunities, developing and supporting the larger upper school mission of social and academic accountability, and listening and responding to the needs of faculty and students. I am delighted about how this administrative role brings together my academic and professional experiences. After getting my undergraduate degree in English Literature at Wheaton College, I completed a master’s program in Secondary Education-Language Arts at The University of Montevallo, through which I received my Alabama Teaching Certification in 1998. I subsequently pursued and completed a master’s degree in English, with a concentration in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL), and a doctorate in English, with a concentration in rhetoric and composition, at The University of Alabama. While completing my graduate work at UA, I taught writing and literature courses in the English department there and taught middle school English at Brookwood Middle School (becoming tenured in the Tuscaloosa County system) and at The Capitol School. Since that time I have been teaching English, Women’s Studies, and African American Studies courses at the University and teaching high school English at Capitol. |
