Session 5 2025 HS PM: ACT Math Prep
Session 5 PM: July 21 - August 1
Age / grade level: HS
Teacher: Dr. Daniel Shankman
Description: The ACT is a national standardized test taken by high school students. The ACT is widely used in university admissions and taking either it or the other major standardized test, the SAT, is required to get into many colleges. Getting a good score on the ACT will greatly increase your chances of getting into selective colleges, as well as make you eligible for many scholarships. The ACT is also a good predictor of early college performance.
During this two week session, we will cover information about the ACT, delve into test taking strategies, and of course do lots of practice in all four sections of the ACT: English, math, reading, and science. We will also go over what college classes are like, how they differ from high school, and how to succeed in them.
Teacher Bio: Daniel Shankman is the math teacher for grades 6-12 at the Capitol School. He taught university mathematics for 7 years and holds a PhD in math from Purdue University.
