Description:
This course will be a whirlwind of Chinese written and spoken language, history, geography, food, folk stories, and practice of tai qi quan - the gentle martial art. Every 30-40 minutes we will change to the next topic of the day. You will practice writing with a maobi, draw and study the provinces and other features of the map of China, learn dynasty history, and learn 5-10 characters per day, and try some Chinese food and more. Session 4 will have ancient history up to 1911 and Session 5 will discuss modern China after 1911.

Teacher Bio:
Laurel Drake has been a middle and high school math teacher for 10 years. She is currently a graduate student in math education at the University of Alabama. She says, Teaching in the summer session is a great chance to teach the fun stuff! For the Study in China 2-week session, she and her family lived in China for a year and she fell in love with Chinese culture and the Chinese people!
