The Capitol School is collecting donations to help with disaster relief for those in need following Hurricane Helene. We have set a goal of $1,500 and hope to reach that amount or more in donations by October 20th!! Donations may be made online. Teachers will also collect donations of cash or checks and take them to the school office. The school will issue a check to World Central Kitchen based on the donations received. Your confirmation email will serve as your receipt for tax purposes if you would like to donate online. We will continue to accept donations after October 20th and will send to WCK as necessary. For meeting the goal of $1,500 or more in donations, Capitol School with have a Celebration and Appreciation for all organizations and volunteers offering disaster relief (more information to follow). Why teach children empathy, compassion, and charity?
Humans thrive in communities–we are meant to be social. And, compassion is a critical tool in creating strong connections and building relationships. By truly understanding and caring about what others are experiencing, you become better able to respond in helpful ways.
Being a giving person is not just about money. It's rooted in something much more important: social and emotional generosity. Molding children to have a giving nature is, at its core, about fostering empathy and considering perspectives other than their own.
Developing empathy and compassion in your children at a young age can help create lifelong philanthropists. They will turn into compassionate adults who positively impact the world around them. Children are naturally empathetic and generous, but they need guidance to learn to be charitable.
